LEXINGTON, KY – Ale-8-One Bottling Company and Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies will be collaborating on an “Ale-8-One 80th Anniversary Cook-Off” Friday, June 30th at 11:00 a.m. on the Lexington Campus of Sullivan University located at 2355 Harrodsburg Road.
Culinary students from the university’s hospitality program were asked to submit original recipes containing Ale-8-One in honor of the Kentucky soft drink’s 80th Anniversary. Five students have been selected to compete in two different categories. Three original recipes have been chosen to compete in the entrée/side dish category and two have been selected for the dessert/beverage group.
The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006, at Sullivan University in their state-of-the-art prep kitchen. The finalists will have two hours to prepare their recipes to be submitted to a panel of judges at 11:00 a.m. A winning recipe will be chosen from each category and a grand prize winner from those two. The winning chef will receive a $250 cash prize from the Ale-8-One Bottling Company, and will prepare the recipe live on LEX 18’s Let’s Do Lunch on July 13, 2006, the 80th anniversary of Ale-8-One. The winning recipes will also appear in the Lexington Herald-Leader, on the mid-south division of the Kroger website, on the website at LEX 18 and Ale-8-One Bottling Company.
Judges for the competition include Lexington chef, Jeremy Ashby of AZUR in Beaumont Center, Churchill Downs Executive Chef Gil Logan, Dan Weldy, editor of Prep Magazine, Lexington Herald Leader Food Editor, Sharon Thompson, the Kroger Company’s Corporate Dietician Carrie McKinney and Fielding Rogers, owner and executive vice president of Ale-8-One Bottling Company.
